Kick-off Conference: Developing the Idea of Codification

The ECMC project began with a kick-off conference held on 18 and 19 October 2021. The conference set the conceptual foundation for the project and brought together the first discussions on the idea of codifying European capital markets law.

The programme addressed key structural questions that would shape the project’s further development, including the idea of codification, legislative competencies and style, definitions, regulatory objectives and the possible regulatory content of a European Capital Markets Code.

This initial conference marked the starting point for a broader research agenda: exploring whether the fragmented framework of EU capital markets law could be reorganised into a coherent, accessible and future-oriented code.
